Every five years, all UNISON members have their chance to directly elect the head of our whole union. This important role has been held by Dave Prentis for the past 20 years but he is retiring at the end of this year.

Your ballot papers should have now arrived for you to elect his successor. All members as at 28 July 2020 are eligible to vote. If you have not received your ballot or have any questions about it, please call the UNISON ballot helpline on 0800 0 857 857. The text phone number is 0800 0 967 968.

It’s really important that all members have their say in this election so we would encourage you to vote now without delay – the ballot closes on Friday 27 November 2020.

Bexley branch’s nomination

Your representatives on the UNISON Bexley branch executive committee discussed the General Secretary election at our August meeting and agreed unanimously to nominate Christina McAnea.

Christina is well qualified for the role as she is currently an Assistant General Secretary, has fought for members as a national negotatior for over 25 years, and has led UNISON’s impressive response to the Covid pandemic this year.

She is also the only woman on the ballot and your committee felt it was important that a union whose membership is over three-quarters women should be led by a woman, for the first time.
